Forgot a Story!

So I forgot my story about the muffins that Mom reminded me of.

I was a little excited about having an oven and brought over a package of muffin mix to make for Friday's breakfast. We made them on Thursday night and once they were done I put them on the counter to cool. Needless to say, Benjamin (the 16 year old) innocently came in to the living room a few minutes later to ask "Umm...Val, did you put only two muffins on the counter?"

THE DOGS GOT MY MUFFINS!

So there we were, on our way to the grocery store at 9 at night to buy some new muffins and back them until about 10! It provided for an interesting first night over at the Sanborns!

Weekend with the Sanborns

This Thursday through Saturday I was asked to take care of my professor's kids, dogs, and house while he and his wife were serving the School of Music at a conference in MI. Not only was the pay just right but a kitchen drew me in!

Thursday night was pretty simple making sure the kids had their homework done and were in bed at a reasonable time, which allowed me to go to bed at a decent time as well. There was a little bit of X-Box in there too but all before dinner because there's no TV or video games after that!
After getting the kids off to school on Friday I headed back to campus for a few things and meetings I had during the day. Pretty lazy day though and I am kind of sad that I didn't get to cook or bake during the day because of being here on campus. The kids got off the bus around 3:30 pm and the X-Box was turned on immediately. However, I was eventually able to convince them to pull out a board game and then headed downtown for some bowling! The youngest had been talking smack to me about how he could beat me for the past two weeks....I showed them!! HA!
Saturday morning was more running and dropping the kids off for sports and music things. With just one left we were able to spend some quality time watching a movie and then sledding all afternoon. We had a great time and made it home just in time to have supper ready when Dr. Sanborn and Ruth got home.

The weekend was a whirlwind but it was a blast! Now for some actual relaxing...

Eye Stye

So I woke up this morning with a stye in my eye! I don't recall ever having one before so I wasn't sure what to think when I couldn't put in my contacts. And man...what a painful little bugger it is. It even hurts to blink! Anyone have some simple home remedy? I'd appreciate it!

Here We Go Again

The process has begun for me to reapply as a Resident Assistant. Despite some of the interesting struggles I've gone through this semester, I'm going for it again. Only, this time, I've told all the interviewers (Res Life Staff) that I'm Kent Hall or bust! Kent is the upperclassmen dorm which is apartment style and coed. Granted by coed I mean two separate sides of the dorm but we do share a lobby. We also aren't required to have a meal plan over there so that way I can full-out cook for myself. So please be rooting for me and praying for me to get the job.

a summary of break = REALLY long post

So, now that it's all over and I failed to keep an update over break, I guess I am stuck giving a summary since I'm back at school and had my first class already! We'll start with the highlights after my birthday...
Spending a lot of time with Eric was a treat! He grows up so fast and it just kills me to be so far away from him. We worked together (not really but kinda) on a gift for Grandpa of a digital photo key chain. All Eric really did was pose for pictures and shake up the wrapped product a ton!
I was able to go watch a Christmas program for a client from my work in the summers at the CP Center. It is so cool to be able to continue to be involved in his life and actually see him on a regular basis. The group of us from work visit him during every break and I was lucky enough to see him twice this time.
Per suggestion from Andy M. and my mom, I went to see Horns-A-Plenty Christmas in Appleton. It was a group of all french horn players who came together to play Christmas music to break a Guiness Book of World Records record that they set the previous year. Dad, Mom, and I ventured down to enjoy a large group of players with a large crowd.
Christmas was a good time as well. I always enjoy Christmas eve and having almost all of us being there (missed you Abi) was a blessing. I got towels from Kati which are now well used and hanging in my bathroom here at school. Thanks Kati!! Even though there aren't pictures from Christmas with the Wolffs (left the camera in the car on accident) it was still a good time. Uncle Joe had my name for the exchange which can sometimes be scary but it all turned out fine. Needless to say I won't be buying laundry detergent or softner for a long time. Thanks Uncle Joe and Grandpa and Grandma!

As seems to be tradition we traveled north for our small family Christmas the weekend after the holiday. We didn't go to Door County this time but I think it was just as much fun. I was loaded up with board games, many of which were opened shortly after, and really enjoyed all the time we spent together. Sure is a blessing to have such a close family!

Finally, before I left to return to school on the 1st of the year for an crammed packed five-day interim in Norton, Ohio, I joined Alan, Pam, and Eric to the Monty's to take some pictures of Eric. Maddee and I worked together on spelling, which she's doing really well, and she figured out how to spell my name. Too fun!
