Welcome to WI

The countdown has begun to my short homecoming this weekend. I'm really excited just to be able to come back home for a little bit and see the family.

My godson Dawson is being baptized on Saturday which is what initially brining me home. It's just so happens, however, that it's also SuperBowl weekend which I usually watch with the immediate family. To stay and watch the game, I'm making it a long weekend and skipping a few classes on Monday. Nothing too major, the powerpoint for one class is always online, and their's a girl in the other class that is a mega note taker who promised me her notes. I should be alright. And let me tell you, it is to worth it!!

It's been a month to the date on Friday since I've been home, so it's well overdue. And what a GREAT excuse to come home. Can't wait to see Dawson, the other kids, and the fam! Just need to stay focused for a few more days. ;-)

Playing "Mom"

This Thursday through Saturday I get to experience the world of "Mom," well, kind of. My brass professor is going to be going to MI to judge a music contest with his wife and has asked me to watch his two boys, two foreign exchange kids, dogs, and home. I'm pretty excited to get to make dinners, pick up and drop off the kids from school, and make the kids do their homework! It should be quite the adventure but I'm pumped about it. Not to mention that I will get to stay somewhere off campus for a bit. It's been a while, so that will be a nice change of pace. Plus it will be like having little siblings, which I've always wanted, not to mention brothers. I've known these kids for a bit now, and have a blast with them every time I see them so it should be a good one.

Other than that, nothing too exciting going on here. Just impatiently anticipating coming home next weekend for Dawson's baptism and the SuperBowl. Definitely glad I won't be on this campus for the big game since they are all pretty split between the Colts and Bears. There's already been some bitterness between some kids on campus, nothing major but there's the tension. Should be a good game though! Glad I'll be home to see it!

Eventful Saturday

It was quite an eventful Saturday to say the least. Starting out nice and early in the morning, the Lancer Band staff had a breakfast meeting with out faculty advisor at Bob Evans. To those of you who don't know, it's a chain restaurant much like Perkins, only slightly better. It was a delicious breakfast, but I have to admit I don't remember much of the chatter.

We then moved on to the Lady Lancer Basketball game, where they unfortunately lost but definitely put up a fight. It was a good time for the band, although there were a lot of members missing for various reasons. You always have a few of those days where just a bunch of people can't make it. Went surprisingly well though!

Moving on to the next step would be quite boring so I'm just going to jump to the evening. Not to mention that I promised myself I would never make it one of those "and I did this and this and even brushed me teeth..." blogs. A few girls from my hall and a few other ladies surprised another girl from my hall for her 20th birthday at Applebees. I wasn't able to stay long because....HERE IT COMES, THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT...I went to a Billy Currington concert. It was amazing and was at an amazing price...half off! Being my first country concert I didn't know what to expect but it was an awesome experience. Can't wait for Country USA now...that is if I can go!

Pep Band

Tonight is the first night back for the Lancer Pep Band with a rehearsal from 9:15-10:45. For those of you who don't know, I am on a three-man staff for Grace College's first-ever pep band for basketball games. It's been an exciting ride and we've become quite a tight-knit group.

The first half of the season, or first semester, whatever you would prefer to call it, went pretty well. We've had some bumps in that we don't know a whole lot of songs, some time conflicts with night classes making the band even smaller than it is, and a few mishaps with the drums. But we keep trucking and are proud to be able to support our athletes.

So, like I said, tonight is our first rehearsal back (where we're actually getting about 12 new songs!!) and then Saturday will be our second semester debut. We're pretty excited and I'm definitely ready to get playing again!

First Timer

Hey all, just thought I would copy Trish a bit and keep you all updated on my life and ramblings here at Grace. Mine won't be nearly as fancy with the pictures and things but it'll keep you updated.

As far as today goes, I have officially taken my first exam of the semester! I had a class 24/7 for the past week that we would have class time for about 6-7 hours a day and observe a ministry at night. It was a nice way to get 3 credits out of the way early in the semester.

I also redeclared today as far as my major goes. I was formally a Youth Ministries and Music Education major but now am a Youth Min Major and Music Minor. It's been through a lot of prayer and counsel that I decided on this and I finally think I'm headed in the right path. So as of today, my classes have changed and things get rolling tomorrow!
